Learning Log Reflections
First, I enjoyed getting to know how easy it is to create a blog within Weebly. I used a blog to keep all of my learning logs. I will continue to use weebly to create websites for my classes, and I will use the blog feature to compose updates, so this was one valuable experience from this project.
Second, there are two excerpts in my log that are especially important. The first is dated June 24th. It is called "Slow Starts and a Committment to Finishing Things." Going back and reading this excerpt meant a lot to me. The two things I struggle with the most in the writing process is getting started and finishing things. I wrote about this in my self-reflection as well. This excerpt from my log brings my struggles into focus. Throughout that day, I was having a hard time. I was having a hard time getting started, and in a couple of pieces, I had come to that point where I had to put them down for awhile and get some distance before finishing them up. This usually happens after I have revised and revised and revised, and realize how much work is left. I get discouraged. I want to commit myself to finishing these pieces, even if it means that I need to put them aside for a few days so that I can approach them again with fresh eyes and a fresh mind. I can proudly say that I finished each of the pieces I mentioned in the log entry.
The second excerpt that got my attention was the last one. It's called "Where Have I Been?" In this short log, you can see the range of emotions that I have experienced here. I am frustrated that I have allowed pressure from outside forces to persuade me away from what I did for so many years that worked. I am frustrated that I have spent the last few years spinning my wheels. I am frustrated that these young whipper snappers in this summer institute are so far ahead of me. But I am so, so, so very thankful that I had this Summer Institute to rescue me from another 15-20 years of wheel spinning. Let's change the world!!
